The Story Behind Battle of the Bullies by Fenyx Blue

Battle of the Bullies

By Fenyx Blue

When you are a teacher, some days you wish you were deaf or blind.  I am a teacher which means I have heard or seen many things that most parents or people would not believe happen in schools.  The gossip, the fights, and the bullying make me nauseous sometimes because I wish school was a utopia or at least a place where kindness was the norm.  The idea for Battle of The Bullies was born when a group of sixth grade girls were tormenting our school with their misbehavior.  They had developed a reputation that was known through sixth, seventh and eighth grade as naughty girls.  The Dimes in my story are mean on purpose just like some of the students I have encountered over the years.  The Robertson triplets are kind on purpose just as some of my students have chosen to be over the years.  The Robertson triplets are based on the members of my club, Team Bully-Free Forever (Team BFF) who volunteer to be kind each year.  These are students who are about building relationships, showing appreciation, and creating a positive climate at our school.  A school has kids who are sometimes like the Dimes and are at times like the Robertson triplets.  I wanted to provide a story that would spark a dialogue.  We can learn from both sides.  What makes someone a bully?  a target? an upstander?  One in five kids are bullied each day.  As an educator, writing Battle of The Bullies is my effort to decrease that number through providing opportunities for candid conversations.  A book is a key to many doors.  I self-published Battle of The Bullies hoping to unlock a door to unity, tolerance, friendship and acceptance.  If there are people in the class of life who are deaf or blind, it is time that they hear a story based on truth and see the impact of bullies on self-esteem, mental health, and the culture of a school.

Ebony, Eris, and Emani Robertson have been through so much more than most high school freshmen. When they were younger, they survived a school shooting that killed their friend and left their oldest sister unable to speak. After giving homeschooling a try, they enroll in a promising new academy, hoping for the best.

The Robertson triplets soon discover, however, that their new classmates are anything but kind. A mysterious group of bullies known as the Dimes rules the hallways and spreads fear everywhere they go. All three sisters end up being targets of the gang and have to find a way to defend themselves. Can they bring down the Dimes while trying to make it through the ninth grade?
