SHEPHERD COACH: UNLOCKING THE DESTINY OF YOU AND YOUR PLAYERS

My career started at age 17 as I was signed by the San Francisco Giants org. That was a short lived career and decided to invest in a career of coaching. Some 10 years of coaching at the college level and 3 yrs in high school.
God then lead to start a ministry to pro baseball. That work continues today and all
of the staff are former pro players reaching back into the game. It afforded me many opportunities to speak into players lives and travel the world, having been to some 68 countries teaching baseball, Jesus and leadership.
After serving for 39 years as the Founder/President of www.upi.org I retired and started www.shepherdcoachnetwork.com . I have had the privilege to write or co author 8 books while with UPI and now 2 with Shepherd Coach.
Having worked for so many years in the world of sports had me ponder how to now reach out to men and women who identified as Chrisitans and where given the title coach and yet had trouble translating their faith into the locker room and onto the field. My first book was a result of that journey….SHEPHERD COACH. A workbook for coaches to identify their why and basically do a strategic plan to work out the How and What. God has used that book and it lead to my second book FLOCK.
My inspiration for FLOCk now expanded past the coach and into all leaders. I wanted to give my thoughts and give permission if you will to all leaders to lead in a godly fashion. I think many leaders have used biblical principles to lead, but question how many of us have had a Kingdom driven mentality as we led.
FLOCK has been a great tool to help as I am in the process of certification of what we call SHEPHERD COACH LEADERS. My hope is that this book will inspire young and vetrean leaders to lead like Jesus.
There are few titles as honored as “Coach.” Players often take on the attitudes and swagger they see in a coach. Coaches are leaders, role models and authority figures all rolled into one. Receiving such a title is one thing… measuring up to the accolade is another. This book will attempt to help us all become better at our honored position of “Christian Coach” by examining our calling, motives, and processes. The workbook will ask questions and give ideas that will help us lead the men and women given to us in a way that models how Jesus would define “winning.” A book for coaches from little league to the major leagues!

Tom Roy was the president and is founder of Unlimited Potential Inc., a ministry to professional baseball players. He has been a voice in major league baseball for almost 4 decades. Tom also served as a head high school baseball coach for three years as well as having 15 yrs coaching experience as a pitching coach and head coach at the college level.
