The Story Behind Reflections by Jena Baxter

I wanted to write a novel for Hans Christian Andersen's, The Little Matchgirl, so I researched Victorian London, to get a stronger understanding of society at that time.

The grieving process of the era left me intrigued. I read that when someone died, the family stopped the clocks, opened the windows, and covered the mirrors. This kept the recently departed from becoming confused and then trapped in a mirror. my imagination went crazy with possibilities.

In the end I had to begin in the Regency Era, to match the historical timeline properly.

After I finished the novel I attended a writer's conference and learned about self-publishing. It wasn't my original intention, but I decided to try it.

Together they struggle to survive against lions, wolves, and the challenges of watching their friends live and die through the back of the mirror, as their own world, family and friends moves on without them.
