The Story Behind The Knowing by Brit Lunden

I was approached by a group of authors who wanted to do an anthology. We picked a genre and I got right to work. I created the fictional town of Bulwark where strange things happen. Sheriff Clay Finnes standing in a puddle of weird, green muck came to me then. I saw his deputy and the opening chapter puts you right in the middle of Mayberry gone mad.

The story developed and I had no idea where it was going to go, but before I knew it, I was immersed in a strange tale of kidnappings, hellhounds, and a plot that eerily resembled an adult Hansel and Gretel. People have said it’s horrifying. I find that both ironic and strange. I don’t read horror and have not watched a horror movie since I was a small child. They scare me too much.

The story was rich with characters that were ripe for spin-offs. I did that for the other authors to pull threads for their own novellas. Unfortunately, I was the only one who finished the book. I published it to see how it would be received and to date, the book has had great reviews and has garnered quite a few awards.

A year later, a new group approached and soon eight books were added to the series. I decided I would do the first book in this series.

I began the next part of the anthology from a character in the second chapter of Bulwark. JB Straton, an ex-football star is mourning the loss of his wife. The book goes back in time to when they met in the early sixties. I honestly thought the book would go in one direction when it took a left turn at the corner of soulmates and true love, taking on an entirely different tone. Bulwark is scary, and The Knowing is more mystical. JB and Ellie form a connection they realize is older than time.

I think the book took on that tone because I had recently lost my husband. The book brought our own courtship rushing bank and the feelings I had when I met him. I knew he was the one, because we were so familiar to each other, despite our very different backgrounds. Does love travel through time? Do we meet and meet again to finish what we couldn’t in our previous lives?

I loved writing this book. It brought a sense of grace and peace for me. It also has touched people in a way that has pleased me. The next book in the series that I contributed took on a totally different tone. It’s interesting to watch the progression of the series, so when you finish the Knowing and the other books in the series, check out, The Devil and Dayna Dalton.

About the Book

Bulwark- a wall or stockade that protects or sometimes hides the truth from the outside world. Bulwark, Georgia, isolated, hidden. Who knows what strange things can happen when the rest of the world can’t see you? JB Stratton is alone in the world, and all he has left are the memories of his beloved Ellie. Dirt poor JB and wealthy Ellie feel an instant connection that is as intense and primal as the blood red earth of their home. Unseen roots connect them, pulling them into an impossible relationship. Will the memories of past lives help or hinder the path of their love? Based on the original novella Bulwark, by Brit Lunden, The Knowing continues the story of a town isolated from the rest of the world where the impossible becomes plausible, and logic is determined by reality.
“THE KNOWING is a wonderfully written romance, a time-hopping supernatural mystery, and an all-around good time–a worthy addition to Brit Lunden’s Bulwark anthology.” – Lisa Butts for IndieReader

“Lunden’s characters feel real, and their interactions make the story work quite well. Her plot is engaging and suitably dark, making this an entertaining urban fantasy tale. The Knowing: A Bulwark Anthology is a well written and engrossing read. It’s most highly recommended.” – Jack Magnus, Readers’ Favorite

“Romance devotees looking for a quick, colorful read should consider The Knowing, which might spark interest in checking out the preceding novella and other installments in the Bulwark Anthology, all of which are currently available in paperback and ebook.” – BlueInk Reviews

An interesting read and wonderful first addition to what seems to be an anthology with much promise. – Insatiable Readers (blog)

The skillful storytelling brings the characters to life and provides a highly immersive reading experience… I strongly urge you to read Brit Lunden’s original novella Bulwark as well, which sets the stage for all the characters in the anthology and offers more excitement for fans of paranormal thrillers. – Ice Fairy’s Treasure Chest (blog)

The Knowing, as its title suggests, makes a compelling pull in such a short space of pages, absolutely filled with emotion and conveying a powerfully romantic story line in sharp contrast to the previous book, but also very fitting of the town and its tone. Readers seeking an immersive new series where they can experience all different story types within the same, dark mysterious world are certain to love The Knowing and the Bulwark Anthology in general.” – K. C. Finn, Readers’ Favorite

“The story is brief yet impactful as the details included and the images they paint are emotionally evocative. The wisdom of characters such as Bear Bryant shines through and adds a beautiful touch to the already delightful love story. The intensity of JB and Ellie’s relationship plus the paranormal aspects of their story makes it even more enthralling. The Knowing by Brit Lunden is a well-told tantalizing read.” – Edith Wairimu, Readers’ Favorite

“It is a beautifully written love story encompassing the present, past, and even past lives. It is a romance with a hint of the supernatural. It is well written with a level of area building and character development often unseen in shorter books. It was easy to read this in one sitting; the story is sweet, intriguing, and sometimes moving. It has certainly piqued my interest in other books by this author, especially the Bulwark, from which this story stems. ” – K.J. Simmill, Readers’ Favorite

“The engaging tale’s centerpiece is the teens’ romance, with a Southern setting the author masterfully captures… The unadorned prose and concise descriptions make for a quick read all the way to the bittersweet ending… A short but undeniably charming love story.” – Kirkus Reviews

“When two people find each other and then lose each other, it sometimes takes extraordinary happenings to bring them back together. “The Knowing” is a quick little story underwritten with the paranormal, and this keeps readers guessing. What could possibly go wrong in this strange world?” – Long And Short Reviews

“For those readers looking for a fast-paced paranormal mystery novel with excellent, vivid descriptive elements, this is a great choice for you. I believe that Brit Lunden’s works are destined to become a classic in paranormal short story fiction.” – Patricia Lynn Dompieri, Lemon Bee & Other Peculiar Tales

The Story Behind FLASH! The Science Behind Intuition by Dr. Anne Watson

In 2004, a vision came to me, unannounced, one fine (non-teaching) day in Ontario, Canada…it was vibrant and in 3D.

Like psychedelic striped wallpaper materializing before my eyes, there suddenly appeared vertical
columns with pulsating lights shimmering up and down inside them. Each thin tube was thrumming to its own sound, to the rhythm of its own oscillations. Side by side, the vibrating columns collectively formed a wide, wondrous pilaster of constantly shifting, harmonious light and sound. Brilliant light! Ecstatic music! It was right there, on my bedroom wall, that sunny July morning.

Ignoring my partner sitting beside me, I asked the wall, “What is this? What is this for?” and instantly, even as I framed my questions, a stranger’s voice inside my head responded:
“These are the messages we send. Those who are open to receiving them can be aware of them even as they are transmitted. The messages enter while you sleep, while you meditate, and occasionally while you are wide awake. They guide and enlighten you as to the ways of the Universe. They are the pre-knowledge your brain must have in order to function smoothly.”

The pre-knowledge?

Who was saying this? This voice was not the nagging voice of my conscience, but a deeper tone. It was a man's voice explaining to me what I was looking at. In a flash of insight, suddenly I understood how the brain knows in advance which cells to excite and which to inhibit along an intended neural pathway. That is, which neurons the brain should engage and which it should avoid when we have an idea, a thought, or send a command to our bodies like, “pick up the cup”, or “shout, he can’t hear you”, or “better look into what that banging noise is downstairs”, or “The square root of 9 is…? 3”: problem solving and behavior commands. (This insight impacted directly on the psycho-educational assessments I performed as my work). The brain carries out such messaging for us so that we can function.
In that flash of insight, I got it! Our brains receive messages for us, directives, commands, suggestions: messages sent through light.

Vibrating, oscillating light messages, shown in a vision to me, made me suddenly understand how the brain pre-knows. It’s because the messages prepare it for what is to come, and these messages come to us from light.

Neuroscience illuminated – literally!

Messages from light arrive in our brains to prepare us to attend to what is coming up next in our minds.

Messages are sent to us, via light, to plan our next thoughts, ideas, movements, responses, reactions. Messages form consciousness.

Like a light bulb going off in my head, the stranger's revelation explained things about the brain over which I had been puzzling.

“Why are you showing me this?” I asked, out loud.

The deep voice continued,
“It is up to you to tell about it, because you know how the brain works and you can write in lay terms.”

“Why?” I continued. What I meant was, why this was important? He understood what I was asking.
“For harmony. We emanate harmony frequencies.”

At this point my questions were being answered so quickly it was difficult to determine which of us was asking and which one was answering.

“When all things go as pre-ordained, we enter a state of rightness, perfection – a state of harmony”.

“Yes.”

That was it. That was the whole exchange: end of vision, end of message.

What inspired me? I was directed to write this book to show people that their lives go better when they get into harmony with their intuitions.

About the Book

If we have intuitions (and we do) where do they come from? Where, in us, do they arrive? What, in us, allows us to receive and interpret them? And why? Why do we get them?
Fourteen years of research, often waiting for the science to catch up with a vision sent to me by the Universe, these questions are answered in lay terms for the wonderment and affirmation of those interested in energy from another plane.
